Borobudur Temple
📍 Magelang, Central Java, ID
★ 5.0 (1)About This Destination
Borobudur isn't just old — it's the largest Buddhist temple on Earth, built over a thousand years ago by the Syailendra Dynasty and still standing as one of Indonesia's proudest landmarks. Walk its stone terraces at sunrise, when the mist is still clinging to the surrounding hills, and it's easy to feel like you've stepped into a different century.
What We Do There?
Catch the sunrise tour before the crowds roll in, then spend a couple of unhurried hours tracing the relief carvings that wind around every level of the temple. If you want the full picture, duck into the Karmawibhangga Museum nearby — it fills in a lot of the backstory the stones don't tell.
Unique / Point of Interest
The world's longest continuous stretch of Buddhist relief carving, the temple's iconic central stupa, and that once-in-a-lifetime sunrise view over the surrounding jungle and volcanoes.
